"Funken" Sunday
"Funken" Sunday symbolizes chasing away the winter. The
"Funken" is made of wood and there's a witch at the top. The witch symbolizes
the spirits of winter and of the ice. By burning the "Funken" and the witch,
spring is supposed to arrive and new life to blossom.
The "Funken" is always
burned on the first Sunday after Fasching (carneval) Tuesday.
